Welcome to the Welsh Eames Families website - the site dedicated to genealogical research of the Eames families of Wales and their many descendants.

The name 'Eames' is of English origin and meant 'uncle'.  When a child's
father died, his or her care passed to the child's uncle, who became known
as the 'eam'.

Oral history is that three Eames brothers left England, possibly from Derby, to
do mining in North Wales.

The earliest known record of an Eames family in Wales was at the mining township of Llanllyfni in Caernarvonshire.

Nathaniel Eames is estimated to have married circa 1654.  Mr and Mrs Eames appear to have had five children, but there may have been more:

~  Rowland Eames** - born circa 1682 in Llanllyfni; married Janet Price.

~  Richard Eames* - born circa 1684 in  llanllyfni; married Gwen . . .

~  Jonathan Eames - born circa 1688 in Llanllyfni; married Elizabeth
Roberts 20 December, 1713, in Llanllyfni.

~  Simon Eames - born circa 1690 in Llanllyfni.

~  Rebecca Eames - born circa 1686 in  Llanllyfni.

Second Genearation

Richard Eames* married Gwen [surname unknown] circa 1707.  They had three children, two of whom's birth records survived in the Old Parish Register:

~  John Eames - born 26 June, 1709, in Llanllyfni.

~  Martha Eames - born 21 January, 1708, in Llanllyfni.

~  Peter Eames - born circa 1711, in Llanllyfni.

Rowland Eames** married Janet Price and they had three children who's births were recorded in the Old Parish Register:

~  George Eames - born 7 November, 1708, in Llanllyfni.

~  Nathaniel Eames - born 12 January 1715, in Llanllyfni.

~  Hugh Eames - born 1 December, 1717, in Llanllyfni; married
Catherine Williams on 20 [?] 1743 in Llanbeblig,
Caernarvonshire; died 10 September, 1797 in
     Llandudwen, Caernarvonshire.

It is possible that Rowland and Janet Eames had more than three children, however, no other records have been found so far.

Subsequent Eames families have been found throughout North Wales, but not all have established links back to these early families in Llanllyfni, quite probably because the records have not survived the test of time.  Nevertheless, the hunt continues . . .
